Celebrating the Real meaning of Christmas

We hope you’re enjoying the special Christmas music. It  is such a privilege to be able to celebrate Christmas in this  way.

As we remember the birth of our Saviour, we pause to thank
Him for the many blessings.

Join Randell Green and Debbie Bye on Christmas Day for
lots of fun, carols and Christmas music that reflects the
message of the birth of Jesus.

There’s a Christmas feature each day at noon from
Christmas Eve and lots of great Christmas music that
reflects the REAL Reason for the Season!

Birthday and AGM

We had a great roll up to our annual meeting with around 40  people helping us to celebrate our 4th Birthday on air. CoM  member Heidi McIvor who stood down this year made us a  beautiful chocolate birthday cake and after our meeting -  where Peter Devonshire was accepted to the CoM - we all  had cake! Thanks to retiring CoM members - Stuart Lawson  and Heidi for their service to Life FM.

2007-2008 Committee of Management

Traralgon Launch

It’s been a very busy few weeks since our last newsletter - on the 17th November we launched our production studio /office in Christian Bookworld’s shop on the highway in Traralgon. We believe this is a God appointed partnership and we have been really blessed to have great people to partner with in a fabulous ministry.

Christian Bookworld is part of CLC International - an International Mission organisation whose focus is on providing Christian literature to local communities as well as to over 57 countries around the world. Christian Bookworld is run as a ministry to support the International ministry. If you would like to volunteer to help out at the store - call 5174 0147.

We are also blessed to have Randell Green working for Life FM in the Traralgon office. You’ll be hearing much more of Randell over Christmas and next year on the air. We’ll be looking for volunteers for Life FM next year to learn audio editing and production - with the option of doing that from Traralgon or the main studio in Sale.

Randell is in the office on Tuesdays from 9:30am till 3:30pm - from 28th January.

This year we will be applying for the renewal of our licence so we need to boost our membership numbers.

If you sign up as a new member in - store (Tuesdays only) you’ll receive a great Life FM membership pack with a free CD and book and other Life FM goodies.

Sue Stacey was first to sign as a new member on our launch day - sh's pictured here with Life FM's Yvonne Hope

Radio Drama

During the school holidays (from 24th Dec) we are introducing Adventures in Odyssey each weekday at 8am and repeated at 5:30pm. We’ll have some giveaways too - so be sure to tune in.

We’d love to know if you’d like this program to continue after the holidays - please let us know. Call our feedback line 5143 0357 and leave us a message.

But wait - there’s more!!
Commencing 4th February - by popular demand - we will be once again broadcasting the entire Left Behind Series.
Come on the journey with Rayford Steele and Buck Williams as they encounter chaos, adventure, and faith among those who have been left behind.

In All Things Give Thanks

We are so thankful to God and to the 90 people who contributed to bring $29,147 into our station to keep us on air into our fifth year!

Gippsland has just experienced the worst flood in 30 odd years after one of the worst periods of drought. The Life FM's transmitter power was cut to 1/4 strength for 22 of the 30 days of our appeal - and we were still blessed!

This amount is short of our $50,000 end of financial year target but we know that our Lord will provide -even the smallest donation helps to keep us on air.

It currently costs about $476 a day to keep the station running, which includes our site rental for the transmitter and the microwave link. This may seem a lot but our city cousins have much higher running costs of around $4500 a day!

Your tax deductible donation will help us achieve our daily goal and allow Life FM to continue telling people who "have ears to hear" about His saving grace and the sacrifice of Jesus through our music and programs we are fulfilling our mission to spread the Good News!

Please consider how God would have you contribute to Life FM to keep LOCAL Christian broadcasting in Gippsland.

All donations over $2.00 are tax deductible.

Fun-Raiser Trivia Night

Our Trivia Night was postponed due to the floods so we've re-scheduled!

Please join us with a table of 8-10

Sat 25th August - 7pm

Garnsey Hall, Gippsland Grammar, McGhee St ,Sale
Lots of fun - great prizes - $10 each
BYO drinks & nibbles
free tea & coffee
Contact us to book a table

Volunteers Needed

Community Notices Producer:

Someone with computer audio editing experience with Adobe Audition (or Cool Edit Pro) software and MS Excel to edit and manage the on air local Community Notices. The person must be able to commit to a minimum of two hours per week.

Program Production Assistants:

We need people to assist in the preparation of programs for broadcast. These are downloaded from the web or ripped from CD's, then edited with Adobe Audition (or Cool Edit Pro) software and scheduled with MS Excel. Accuracy is a must as this is the front-line of our broadcasting.

We also need assistants to rip and catalogue music using Adobe Audition and BSI software.

If you love working with audio and computers and desire to be a part of an exciting ministry that is making a difference in Gippsland then send us a letter and resume describing your attention to detail, technical savvy and previous experience with audio editing.

There is a possibility that we could base some of this work in Traralgon - please let us know if that is your preferred option to Sale.

Accounts Assistant:

We are seeking someone with at least two years experience with QuickBooks Premier to process incoming funds and membership invoice management. The person must be able to commit to a minimum of two hours per week in the Sale office.

Send your letter and resume to: Station Manager Deb Bye - gippsland@lifefm.com.au

Serving Jesus

Our God is faithful and even though we know many are “doing it tough” - He still provides.
He will give you all you need from day to day if you make the Kingdom of God your primary concern” Luke 12:31

We KNOW that He will send the people HE wants to be involved with this ministry. At the moment we’re asking Him to provide us with more people to learn production and people to serve on the Committee of Management.

We are also asking Him to provide much needed funds to keep the station running.

We need people who will faithfully pray for those who listen to Life FM, many who don’t know Jesus. For hearts to be touched and also for those involved in getting the message out. For protection from the darkness that is always close by for those working on the front line of ministry.

How are you serving? Ask God if He wants you more involved in this ministry.

$50,000 by Monday 25th June

Last June we set a target to raise $40,000 by 5pm Friday 30th June 2006. This was a big leap of faith for us and we were blown away when yet again God confirmed that what we are doing at Life FM is what He wants...through His faithful people - YOU!

We were humbled by the response - 70 people collectively gave $40,000 - and it was a huge reminder that all our fundraising efforts are just that - efforts!

We continue to make these efforts by applying for grants, selling sponsorship advertising and holding fundraisers - and we know that God hears our prayers and knows our needs and that without Him touching your heart (and cash) we would be doing it all in our own strength.

That said, we have received a grant from the Community Broadcasting Fund to help pay our site rental on Mt Tassie and we will be applying for further grants to complete our studio installation.

It currently costs about $350 a day to keep the station running, which includes our site rental for the transmitter and now the microwave link. Also since July 1 last year we have been able to pay our part-time receptionist a small wage and after three years volunteering full time, the Station Manager now receives a part-time salary while still working full-time for Life FM. Our projected budget for 07/08 will bring this total cost to around $476 a day - so this year we’re asking God for $50,000 by 25th June.

Your tax deductible donation will help us achieve our daily goal and allow Life FM to continue telling people who “have ears to hear” about His saving grace and the sacrifice of Jesus through our music and programs we are fulfilling our mission to spread the Good News!

Our catch phrase is “a better Life for Gippsland” - it is the focus of all that we do to bring the message of the hope of Jesus into the hearts of those who listen to Life FM - YOU are an integral part in this listener supported ministry!

Please prayerfully fill in the form on page 2 and return to Life FM, PO Box 1378, Sale, 3853.
You can pay by cheque, credit card or arrange with your bank to Direct Credit to Life FM’s account. Please make sure you put your name as the reference.

At Home in Mitford starts Tues 5th June.

Combining the stellar script-adaptation skills of award-winning writer Paul McCusker with the best-selling novel by Jan Karon, Radio Theatre's At Home in Mitford will leave listeners longing for more. Set in the charming village of Mitford, this book will delight listeners as it draws them into the life of Father Tim, an Episcopal rector who finds himself running on empty and longing for change. His bachelor existence is changed and enriched by a lovable cast of characters, including a stray dog, a lonely boy, and a comely neighbor.

The Legend of Squanto starts Wed 4th July

Discover the incredible story of one of American history's least known, yet most compelling, figures as it unfolds in The Legend of Squanto. Drought Affects Money Tree

It’s very hard for many of us at the moment - considerably harder for those on the land and I know we are all praying hard for God to send healing rain.
There is another kind of drought that affects ministry - it’s the annual funding drought that lasts from around November to May each year.

This is the period when we’re all thinking about Christmas and presents and summer holidays and then the long weekends away and Easter is here before you realise!

We have paid for the installation of the microwave link but our funds are now very low as we move into the last part of the financial year.

As a listener supported ministry we ask you to prayerfully consider your giving to enable us to keep Life FM broadcasting the message of hope to our region.

New Radio Drama - Amazing Grace

To coincide with the upcoming movie with the same title, Amazing Grace - a Radio Theatre production from Focus on the Family will commence Saturday 14th April at 4pm and each episode will be repeated on Sundays at 4pm.
In this drama series over 12 weeks, you will meet William Wilberforce, a young politician with the desire to stop the slave trade, Olaudah Equiano, the slave-turned-author, and John Newton, the slave trader. With the same production team that brought us Bonhoeffer, “Amazing Grace presents the stories of three lives that converged at one point in history, stirring the conscience of a nation and changing their world – and ours –forever.”

Young John Newton traded slaves and became a slave to men and to his own depravity. So how is it that such a man could write the words Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me?

Oludah Equiano: At age 10, Oludah Equiano was brutally taken from Africa as a slave. Oppressed and betrayed, this child would become a man who defied his times with courage, ingenuity and faith.

William Wilberforce: a privileged young man and a rising star in British politics. So why would he throw it all away to fight for the freedom of a people he’d never known, in lands he’d never visited? Experience the story of a man who learned that conviction comes with a very high price - but a price worth paying to abolish slavery.

Don’t miss this Amazing story - on Life FM 103.9 - Sat 4pm from 14th April - repeated each Sunday at 4pm

Many Gifts

Have you ever wondered about the reading in 1 Corinthians 12.12-31 ‘the body does not consist of one member, but of many’ . . . a variety of gifts proceed from God, all given for the common good of the community.

Do you have a gift that calls you to local Christian radio? Life FM would love to hear from you to consider becoming a member of the Board to support a dynamic locally based missionary ministry.

The commitment that we would ask of you is to attend a meeting once a month, to support the Station in its wide and diverse range of initiatives, ideas for fund-raising, applying for funding, ongoing work with policies and procedures. There are many areas that you may have gifts and talents that you would like to offer and share with a Gippsland based Christian Radio Station.
Please prayerfully consider if God is calling you to this ministry and if so please call Life FM we would love to hear from you.

New Programs in 2007

We are very excited about the new programs we’re introducing from Sat 3rd February. This has been made possible by the installation of the microwave link and lots of hard work by Beth and Deb.

There’s a full program guide inside but in brief we are stepping out in faith that we will have people to assist us preparing these programs for broadcast. We’ll have more news about our helpers in the next newsletter.

We’re trying some new times for things too so we need to hear what you think about our lineup.  This is YOUR radio station - so please drop us a line or call the feedback number and leave a message.

Studio Installation Begins

On the 20th December 2006 we  commenced broadcasting from the Sale studio (again) - we did this for 3 weeks in 2003 but costs were too high using phone lines, so for the last 3 years we’ve been fundraising for a microwave link.  Last newsletter we told you about the installation so now that the Sale dish is in things are much easier for us.

Then on the 6th January, Ralph (from BAE Systems) began installing the new studio equipment.  There’s still a bit to go but we are moving ahead.

Deb is doing some training so that Life FM will be able to offer nationally accredited training  in broadcasting. Hopefully we’ll be able start that sometime this year too!  Praise God with us as these small but very significant steps enable us to grow this ministry!

Focus On The Family

You’ll notice in our program guide that Focus on the Family is now being broadcast 7 days a week twice a day.

We believe this program has all the elements of what Life FM is  about. While we have also scheduled several excellent Bible teaching programs, the guests and topics covered by Focus emphasise the family values and the spiritual encouragement we want to promote.
Focus does not pay us to broadcast their programs, but from time to time they do give us product so we can bless you with giveaways and prizes - like the beautiful prints at Christmas!

We are now also doing regular interviews with some of the folk from the head office in Melbourne. The many programs run by Focus are available to Gippsland as well and we would encourage you to check them out - www.families.org.au

Enclosed you will find a list of the magazines available through Focus. We thought you may like to check them out. Call the Focus office for more information about their programs or magazines - 1300300 361

Everyday at 5 on Life FM

Volunteer Honoured

Life FM is now in the fourth year of broadcasting but as you may know there was a lot of work done before we got to that day on October 2003!

Back in May 1999 when it became apparent that if we were to get feet to the vision for Christian radio in the region I knew I would need a LOT of help.

One of the first people I called into action was my friend Beth who was a bit of a whiz with computers.  She agreed to help me hire the “right” computer for the job (she’s still advising us on computers and fixing them when they die) and then set about designing us a database so we could send our first newsletter.

In August 1999 we held a public meeting in Sale to see if there were others interested in our vision. There were - and the rest (as they say) is history!

Beth designed us a website and now also has a small web design business - Anchor Web Design - and she still maintains our site.

When we got to the stage of having to prepare for broadcast in 2003 - Beth was on hand again - I knew heaps about broadcasting but nothing much about computers and Life FM is a  modern station with not a CD player in site!

Once we started we soon realised that we both had a LOT to learn about using   computers to broadcast so we made a quick trip to some other stations to see what they were doing.  Rhema FM in Gladstone spent a couple of days with us teaching us how to use our software and since those early days Beth has done lots of homework and experimenting.

There is so much work behind the scenes in getting programs and sponsors and community notices ready for air.  We have a great team of volunteers who help us do that and we will be adding to the team again soon.

We (the Board of Gippsland Christian Broadcasters) thought that Beth’s seven years faithful service should be acknowledged and so at the last Board meeting Beth was awarded with Life FM’s first     honorary Lifetime Membership.

Please continue to pray for our team and for Beth as she also deals with a disability and some days it’s physically very hard for her to work.

Christmas 2006

Can you believe it’s nearly Christmas!! We get really excited at this time of year because there’s so much wonderful Christmas music focusing on the real Reason for the Season!

It’s a family focused MUSICAL Christmas on Life FM this year….we’re featuring several different musicals as well as some radio drama and all your favourite Christmas songs….

There’s special editions of all our regular programs and our Christmas Features include:

A Thrill of Hope - Christmas is truly the season for miracles -- a time that fosters hope and healing. Yet for many, Christmas loses its meaning against the stresses of the world and personal struggles. Now, more than ever, the world seems out of control . . . the daily headlines cause despair and fear to haunt our hearts. A Thrill of Hope illuminates the messages of renewal, faith and hope in Jesus Christ.

The message of the Gospel rings out loud and clear in Christmas Is Jesus, a musical that echoes the true reason for our seasonal celebration -- it's all about Jesus!

That’s the Good News - the story of Will, a radio news announcer in the small town in Nebraska as he faces his first Christmas without his wife of 40 years. Because of her death, Will looks at the world in a different light, especially the news he reads everyday of murder and theft and struggles with bad things happening to good and innocent people. Through a series of events and interaction with key people in his life, Will finds true peace on earth.

We couldn’t go through Christmas without hearing the classic from Charles Dickens - A Christmas Carol - this is a dramatized radio play and it will take you back to the time of Ebenezer Scrooge and Tiny Tim.

Then join Deb at 9pm Christmas Eve for favourite Christmas Carols followed at 11pm by  Radio J - Radio Jerusalem (Radio J) transports listeners back to the first Christmas where they listen to events as they might have been reported on a radio station of the day. With the use of cash-calls, sponsorship announcements, phone-ins, jingles, gossip, news and roving reports, Radio J’s announcer, Sammy Amos presents a lively re-enactment of the Christmas story with humour and drama

Join Deb again on CHRISTMAS DAY from 11am for more great Christmas music and special Christmas programs.

Don’t miss Christmas - The Message.  Hear the Christmas story come alive as you listen to Mark Lowry read the Old Testament prophecies of Jesus up to the birth of the Christ. This feature includes the song "Mary, Did You Know" written and recorded by Mark Lowry as well as a bonus interview with Mark detailing the story behind the song and special Christmas memories.

And at 3pm Christmas Day we present a wonderful Christmas musical titled Repeat the Sounding Joy. This is an intriguing look at the sharing of the Christmas story, moving from modern day through different eras back to Bethlehem. New and beloved songs tell the timeless message of Christ's birth, each arranged in period style. A spectacular, one-of-a-kind sequence pays tribute to classic Christmas films with the opportunity to recreate songs and scenes from A Christmas Carol to It's a Wonderful Life.

There’s great Christmas music throughout the day so please turn the radio on for Christmas with Life FM - 103.9 - where the only thing that really matters is Jesus!

A Christmas Blessing from Focus on The Family and Life FM

Focus on the Family Australia has very generously given us four copies of a special limited edition and numbered print by Canadian artist G. Harvey titled Christmas in the Village so we can bless you!

Just email gippsland@lifefm.com.au by Wednesday 20th December and we’ll draw four winners from the entries received.  Winners will be announced on Gippsland Today on the 22nd.
Please enter me in the draw for  the Christmas in the Village print.

Iron Chef Competition - photos

Deb, Beth & Yvonne attended Maffra Show and Life FM was entered in the media section of the Gippsland Iron Chef competition.  Others in the section were Prime TV, Bureau of Meteorology, Wellington Shire, ABC Radio, Gippsland Times, 3TR FM and Southern Rural Water.  Deb cooked up a fillet of lamb with mustard and tarragon sauce - served with asparagus and Desiree potatoes and finished with homemade (by Margaret Uebergang) Rosemary and Quince jelly.  Margaret tutored Deb in the finer points of presentation. Beth created a delicious dessert of fresh strawberries with red wine and vinegar sauce topped with lavender cream.  All products used were from Gippsland!  Life FM came 2nd after Southern Rural Water’s presentation of carp and rabbit dishes and 3TR FM came 3rd with lamb sausages.  This was a fabulous opportunity for publicity and the chefs looked great in special Iron Chef hats made by Beryl Harris. Gabriel Gate was the chair of the judges panel - so it was all fair dinkum!

Microwave Link Installation - photos

After three years of praying, planning and fundraising we are taking the next step in our journey in developing this new radio station. When we started broadcasting on 29th October 2003 it soon became evident that we could not continue using telephone lines to broadcast because the phone bills were $1000 per week!!

That’s when we started pre-recording all our music (remember the loops?) - initially it was an hour, then we expanded and experimented and eventually had 24 hours of music playing on a loop. We were able to arrange the loops to vary the programs each day and then in 2005 we introduced our automation software. This meant we could provide more diversity to the music and programs and not have to record hours of music each few weeks!   I say “we” but most of the working out how to do things with computers was done by our program producer and webmaster, Beth Harris.  This has been a monumental effort and even though we have had to drive up to the transmitter at Mt Tassie every six weeks or so, we have been very encouraged by the feedback we’ve had.

You know that we have been fundraising for the last 3 years and we thank all those who have held sausage sizzles, sold homemade cards, shopped at Ritchies, gone to events and even bought Tupperware! Thanks also to those who have generously donated anything from two dollars to twenty-two thousand dollars!! YOU have helped to get us this far!!  We have also received some grant money from the many grant applications we have submitted.

So, on the 8th November 2006 a microwave dish was raised onto the tower at Mt Tassie! Tony, Ralph and Tony from BAE Systems are handling the installation.  The studio dish should be installed in the next few weeks and hopefully all systems will be operational by Christmas. PRAISE GOD! - Photos -

This means no more trips up the mountain! AND we will have the capacity to do “live” broadcasts.  This  will make it easier for us to assist with emergency coverage (fire & flood) and eventually we will have more programs and even some more announcers!  All this takes time and committed volunteers so please keep praying for us and remember that we need your financial support through donations, memberships and sponsorships (if you’re in business) to keep the station on air. God has given us a tremendous opportunity to reach out across Gippsland with the power of His word - please help us to build on what we’ve started and to make this a radio station that brings Jesus to every home in our region!

Crossing the Gap - New Year's Eve

Join Crossing the Gap - Victoria’s Christian FMX Team - at the Gormandale track for an exciting NYE celebration. Starts at 7:30pm with lots of games for the kids. What a great way to start 2007 - CTG events are evangelism focused and the stunts are spectacular!  Stay listening to Life FM for more info or check the CTG website or all Ben Bowen - 0438 741 662

Deb Bye - Life FM Birthday

3 Years On Air !!

Plan to stay close to the radio on Sunday 29th October- whether you're in the car or having a BBQ  or relaxing at home - There'll be an EXCITING announcement on our birthday – as well as lots of giveaways with Deb on air from 10am till 5pm.

Since going on air around 2:18am on the 29th October 2003 we have achieved some amazing things with very limited resources.  God has been more than gracious and we are so thankful to Him for prompting YOU to donate to this new ministry.

Our end of the year fundraiser brought $40,000 in (as we had asked!) God is so faithful! Many of those who donated were not even members - just listeners who love what we’re doing and want to keep us on air.

We have been so encouraged to hear that we are being     listened to in shops, businesses,         hospitals, prison, lots of cars and many, many homes from Melbourne to  Orbost!

Volunteers have put in 2876 hours in the first 40 weeks of this year and we are so grateful to have this valuable resource.  We need more volunteers as the station grows - we’ll have job info from time to time in the newsletter and on the website.

Deb Bye & Beth Harris

Deb does admin with assistance from Yvonne, as well as PR, meetings, interviews, sponsorship and pretty much whatever else has to be done.

Beth does most of the production work, as well as the web site, databases and birthday cheesecakes!

Yvonne Admin Assistant and Receptionist Yvonne keeps the office running
Robyn Robyn is a regular - researching and writing up community notices and keeping our volunteer log book up to date.

There’s others who come in from time to time to do jobs and we are so grateful for their time and willingness to help.

Consider Serving

Have you ever considered being a missionary at home? (See AGM Info)

We are always looking for new members for our Committee of Management who will help to develop this ministry to it's full potential.

LIFE FM will be best served if the CoM members are acquainted with the work that the organisation undertakes, and are committed, active Christians.

Prospective members should have a good sense of their own skills and abilities to serve the organisation, as well as being highly motivated to attend Board meetings, training, Planning Days, and the Annual General Meeting. All Board members shall sit on or chair at least one sub committee.

Meetings are held monthly.

Please prayerfully consider the possibility.

God Answers Prayer

Back I June we  set a target to raise $40,000 by 5pm Friday 30th June 2006. This was a big leap of faith for us and we were blown away when I received a call on the last day of the appeal from a listener who wanted to know how things were going with the fundraising.  I was over the moon because at that time I was up to my elbows processing  credit card donations, adding them up as we went - and we were almost halfway!  I figured if God got us even half of what we asked for we were more than blessed!

THEN this faithful servant of God said to me  “give me a call when you’ve added it all up and I’ll make up the difference!”  Tears of joy and gratitude flowed as I hung up the phone. Yet again God has confirmed that what we are doing at Life FM is what He wants!  That by telling people who “have ears to hear” about His saving grace and the sacrifice of Jesus through our music and programs we are fulfilling our mission to spread the Good News!

Our catch phrase is  “a better Life for Gippsland”  - it is the focus of all that we do to bring the message of the hope of Jesus into the hearts of those who listen to Life FM - YOU are an integral part in this listener supported ministry!

We have been successful in receiving two grants from the Community Broadcasting Fund this year. This money will help to pay our site rental on Mt Tassie and also assist in our fundraising for a microwave link and studio equipment. It currently costs about $453 a day to keep the station running. This includes our site rental, power and since July 1 this year we have been able to pay our part-time receptionist and after three years volunteering full time at Life FM, I am also now receiving a part-time salary. I continue to work full-time for Life FM, so this has been most appreciated!  Our projected budget will bring this to around $630 a day.

Your tax deductible donation will help us achieve our daily goal - please prayerfully fill in the form below and return to Life FM PO Box 1378 Sale 3853.

You can pay by cheque, credit card or arrange with your bank to Direct Credit  to Life FM’s account. Please make sure you put your name as the reference.

It’s Tax Time!

In the Sermon on the Mount as recorded in Luke 6:38, Jesus tells us “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

Well the taxman is not as generous as God but at this time of year it’s a reminder that when we give to a worthy cause (at least that the Government deems worthy enough to grant tax deductibility status!), that we can even “get some back”.

It’s been a great blessing for Life FM to gain tax deductibility status because not only does it mean we are “worthy” in the eyes of the land BUT it means as we give towards the work of the station, sowing seeds into the harvest of LIFE, we regain not only some of what we’ve given financially, but we also reap the eternal rewards and the satisfaction of knowing that our dollars maybe helping someone else to get in touch with Jesus through the vital ministry of Life FM.

I’m constantly amazed at the number of businesses who are playing Life FM in their stores and the number of people who don’t attend church who are listening! Praise God that the Holy Spirit can use all these opportunities to touch hearts that we could NEVER reach without the intimate understanding that only HE has!

As we creep financially ever closer to having the funds for a microwave link and studio equipment (we’ve nearly halfway thanks to another grant just received from the Community Broadcast Fund!), I urge you to prayerfully consider donating to Life FM to push this ministry forward. We’re into our third year on air and we need to be able to budget to pay our full time staff.
Your donation before June 30th will greatly assist and your regular donations help us to plan head.

All donations over $2.00 are tax deductible!

We’ve set a target to raise $40,000 by 5pm Friday 30th June 2006 can you help us meet that target?

Our catch phrase is “a better Life for Gippsland” it is the focus of all that we do to bring the message of the hope of Jesus into the hearts of those who listen to Life FM YOU are an integral part in this listener supported ministry!

Your tax deductible donation will help us achieve our goal of $40,000 please prayerfully fill in the form below and return to Life FM PO Box 1378 Sale 3853.

CROSSING THE GAP raised $2535

The Gippsland based Christian Freestyle Motocross Crossing the Gap group held a fundraiser for Life FM on Sat 3rd June. This event was for the “young at heart” and the evening included a FREE BBQ, live bands, a spectacular fireworks display which was generously donated by Fitzpatrick’s fireworks and high flying motocross stunts.

Crossing the Gap

The Crossing the Gap events are held every few months and are usually all free BUT this time the CTG team decided to charge a $10 gate fee and give all the proceeds to Life FM!! Thanks also to the team of youth from Sale who came to assist on the gate and with parking. There seemed to be so many cars!

The cars to watch though, were the beat up bombs in the Pig Pen Arena. We arrived around 5:00pm and it was just getting dark. There was a heavy dew on the ground but there was already a huge crowd gathered and the air was alive with the sound of live music on the truck stage. There was the lovely smell of sizzling sausages in the air and I was very pleased to see drum fires lit along the viewing perimeter. There was also the makings of a large bonfire for later. This was much appreciated when the temperature got down to around 3 degrees by around 7pm!

The action started with the guys on the bikes doing amazing aerial stunts. MC Jeremy Aitken was diligent in keeping the crowd behind the barrier and call the “moves”. He said that no stunt was ever performed unless it had been rigorously practiced and that was evident with only a couple of spills from which all walked away without visible limping!

Then they brought out the “farm bombs” every young persons dream to drive a “bomb” around a paddock and over jumps. One got stuck on a jump and another caught fire but the crowd loved it and the CTG guys hammed it up!

Crossing the Gap

There was an intermission and we heard a gospel skit and some more live music also the chance to indulge in a free sausage! Then more motocross and car racing all interspersed with fabulous fireworks. The grand finale was a spectacular display (one of the best I’ve ever seen!) All in all a fabulous event keep your eye out for the next CTG event and please support these guys and this exciting ministry.

It was so good to see and hear young people talking openly and with excitement about Jesus! Well done and thank you!

Emergency Response

Life FM recently had the opportunity to support emergency services when Station Manager Deb Bye with production assistance from Beth Harris provided up to date reports on developments in the Moondarra fires in Gippsland. They regularly broadcast updates on road closures and threats of spot fires and ember attacks as the fires approached areas north of Moe, Tyers and Yallourn North.

Using updates issued by the DSE and CFA, announcements were broadcast on Life FM between songs throughout Sunday and again on Australia Day. Minor coverage and updates were provided on cooler days. Covering this kind of an emergency is difficult at the best of times but Debbie and Beth also had to overcome the lack of a link between the Life FM studio and the transmitter. All coverage was pre-recorded and loaded by modem so that Gippslanders could be kept up-to-date on Life FM.

In February, Debbie & Beth traveled to Walhalla for a briefing for the communities directly affected by the Moondarra bushfires by the Gippsland Tourism Response and Recovery Group.

Debbie said "Having gained experience with emergency procedures with the ABC, it was great to be able to swing Life FM into emergency mode and provide these updates to our listeners. We have quite a few members in the affected areas and we knew that we had the ability to keep focused on the local situation because we are not associated with any networks."
"It has been great to get feedback from our listeners praising Life FM for the accurate and informative updates," Debbie said.

"Now we have the opportunity to encourage people back to the region by using our radio station to spread the good word about Gippsland"

You Can Make a Difference

The Boiling Frog Syndrome goes something like this: "If you throw a frog into a pot of boiling water, he will jump out. But if you place a frog into a pot of cold water and turn the heat on low, it will float there quite placidly. As the water gradually heats up, the frog will sink into a tranquil stupor, exactly like one of us in a hot tub, and before long, with a smile on its face, it will unresistingly allow itself to be boiled to death. Now I'm not sure this really works with frogs, (I couldn't bring my self to find out), but I am certain that it works with people. I believe that we are all sitting in a big pot and the water is beginning to boil. IT’S LATER THAN YOU THINK! What can YOU do to make a difference?

OVERDUE MEMBERSHIPS

Last Newsletter I wrote to you about the grave financial state of Life FM. Many responded to that call and for that we give thanks to God!

In the last few months we have had new sponsors come on board, new members have signed up, and some existing members have renewed their memberships.

At the time of writing this however, we have 393 CURRENT members and 89 over due for renewal. It is vitally important that we maintain our membership numbers for a number of reasons:

  1. We need the revenue that comes from membership fees
  2. This is YOUR radio station - you can support it and keep it going as a witness and outreach in Gippsland by maintaining your membership, praying for those involved on the ground - or getting actively involved as a volunteer.
  3. Our licence will be reviewed by the Australian Communications and Media Authority every 5 years - so we need to show them that interest and support in Life FM is growing!

We're still only just meeting our ongoing costs - and these costs do not include any wages to the faithful few who work almost full time for the station.

There are a lot of people in Gippsland, but you'd be surprised at how few are actively involved with Life FM. If you want it to continue we urge you to get involved:

Encourage family and friends to sign up as members and make sure you renew your own membership!

Talk to people you know who run a business to encourage them to take out a sponsorship; Encourage your own employer to take out a sponsorship;

Let us know of high-profile (but low cost!) places where we can erect signage;
organise a fund-raiser - every little bit helps; The ways of helping are unlimited - if you have an idea give us a call.

If you think Life FM has anything to offer the community then we urge you to act now.
God bless,
Cameron Rash

Have you seen the trailer on the grassy knoll?

YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE

And I sought for a man...that should...stand in the gap..."Ezekiel 22:30
"Most people are more capable and more important than me. Who am I, anyway, to think that I could make a difference?" Is that how you feel? If it is, just be glad that Henry Ford, Martin Luther King Jr, Abraham Lincoln and the apostle Paul didn't think like you! How many did it take to rescue the man on the Jericho Road? ONE good Samaritan. How many did it take to confront Pharaoh and lead the Exodus? ONE man - Moses. In 1645, ONE vote gave Oliver Cromwell control of England. In 1776 ONE vote gave America the English language instead of German. In 1868, ONE vote saved President Andrew Jackson from impeachment. In 1941, ONE vote gave Adolph Hitler control of the Nazi Party! Esther, a Jewish girl who was married to a pagan king, broke a long-standing tradition, marched into her husband's throne room, spoke her mind, and rescued her nation from a holocaust. ONE woman - only ONE - saved the nation, because she was willing to get personally involved to the point of sacrifice. She said "If I perish, I perish" (Es 4:16) Before you say, "Somebody else should be doing this instead of me," read these words. "I am only ONE, but I'm still ONE. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do." Ask God today, "What can I do in this situation?"
Bob Gass

It's Time
It's time for us to stand up and be counted.
It's time for us to rejoice.
It's time for us to PRAISE THE LORD.

Are we so complacent that we're content to let the secular media and people who don't know God, who is in all and through all and the creator of our Universe, dictate how we should think, feel and respond to the hurt and degradation of our society?
I don't know about you but sometimes when I hear the news and the "experts" deciding our future, I just want to scream "the answer is Jesus". We are being given a UNIQUE opportunity to MAKE A DIFFERENCE. The wheels are turning faster than ever and as we spin into this next turn we need to be armed and ready for battle. And it will be a BATTLE! Satan does not want us working together as a Christian community. Satan does not want us praying against the powers of darkness and for the light of Jesus to break through. The attacks will come in many different disguises so we need to:

" Be self controlled and alert. Your adversary the devil prowls about like a roaring lion waiting for someone to devour" 1 Peter 5:8

From the treasurer

About this time last year we wrote to you to about the financial state of Life FM. Since that time God has continued to be faithful and to supply our needs. Many people across Gippsland and beyond have been very generous with their money. Sponsors have got on board, new members have signed up, existing members have renewed their membership.

But we're still only barely meeting our ongoing costs - and these costs do not include any wages to the faithful few who work almost full time for the station.

The note on the front of this newsletter is not an exaggeration! The future of Life FM really is in the hands of Gippslanders. There's a lot of people in Gippsland, but you'd be surprised at how few are actively involved with Life FM. If you want it to continue we urge you to get involved:

  • encourage family and friends to sign up as members (and make sure you renew your own!);
  • talk to people you know who run a business to encourage them to take out a sponsorship;
  • encourage your own employer to take out a sponsorship;
  • let us know of high-profile (but low cost!) places where we can erect signage;
  • organise a fund-raiser - every little bit helps;
  • the ways of helping are unlimited - if you have an idea give us a call.

Please, please, please don't let this challenge be answered by someone else. If you think Life FM has anything to offer the community then we urge you to act now, before it's too late.

God bless,
Cameron Rash

GOD'S OWN COUNTRY

After fearing Country Gospel would finish because of a lack of finances, the ministry is approaching its 100th show and changing its name.

"This is going to be a day of rejoicing," said Producer Don Taylor. "God has provided in the form of people who have come alongside us with prayers, encouragement and practical support."

In particular Don thanked several ministries who had gone the extra mile to help a "mate" on the other side of the globe.
"The last two years have been a journey with its share of challenges, and unexpected blessings," said Don. "When we started, I was believing for 3 stations to take the program. Just last week, the number of stations broadcasting the program weekly went past 250 stations, including the most recent addition of a 24*7 country network in New Zealand." On the 100th program, the name will change to "GOD'S OWN COUNTRY

Jesus is the Reason for the Season

We hope you're enjoying the special Christmas music. We have much more for you this Christmas - details inside. It is such a privilege to be able to celebrate Christmas in this way. As we remember the birth of our Saviour, we pause to thank Him for the many blessings.

Below you'll be able to see His hand in the progress of Life FM through 2004. The BIG NEWS this year has been the granting of a permanent licence and our official status as 3GCB. The CHALLENGE in 2005 is to raise the extra money to buy the equipment to take the station to the next level.

Station Dedication on Mt Tassie

Praise God for a beautiful clear day on Saturday 30th October as around 35 people made the trek to Mt Tassie from right across the region (Melbourne and Paynesville and lots of places in between and even Mackay in Qld!) to join us in celebrating our first year on air! Many have been praying for Christian radio in Gippsland to come and as Pastor Andrew Cairns formally dedicated the station and it's work and ministry - this was a prayer answered. The station dedication is a milestone on our journey to bring local Christian radio a step closer to reality. We're on air 24 hours - 7 days a week - which has been a tremendous blessing to many for the last 12 months.

Program Improvements during 2004

We have now increased our loop to 24 hours from Monday to Saturday. During the week you can hear a program called The Christian Working Woman - and on Saturday nights - Gospel Country.

On Fridays there's a local interview at 8am (repeated at 5pm in case you miss it!) Station Manager Deb Bye speaks with Liz Watt from Collins Booksellers every 2nd Friday of the month and with Vanessa at the Sale RSPCA every last Friday. The remaining Fridays there's interviews of general interest to the Gippsland community. All interviews are archived on the web so you can listen at your leisure (and see pictures!)

We've made Sundays on Life FM different to weekdays and scheduled 3 hours of traditonal Hymns plus a program called Heart and Soul -

the music of the church throughout the ages

with a short message from Rev David Evans - between 6 and 10am every Sunday. In addition, there's now 18 hours of Praise and Worship music on Sundays plus we've introduced two programs - Face to Face and Focus On The Family.

We also wanted to let people know what's happening around the region so we introduced a Community Service Announcements segment. This will continue on the hour until we can introduce a news service. The notices have proved to be very popular and many groups are sending us their information now by letter, fax or email. If your church or non-profit group is having an activity, we'd love to hear from you.

Special Christmas Day on Life FM with Deb Bye

Deb Bye presents Christmas Day ProgramsStation Manager Deb Bye will keep you company on Christmas Day with a very special program lineup.

We're very excited about our Christmas line-up which includes Christmas editions of our regular features, Gospel Country, Heart & Soul, Face to Face and Focus On The Family as well as some extra Focus on the Family features, some radio drama and how could we go through Christmas without Handel's Messiah - We have a special presentation by Contemporary Christian performers.

There'll be some special New year's Eve programs too....but more about that later.

Details of Christmas Programs can be found here.

Current $tatus

Since we started broadcasting in October 2003, it became evident that we need extra equipment sooner than we thought. We need to purchase and install studio equipment and microwave links. God has blessed us with the money for the purchase and installation of our transmitter ($60,000) now we need to finish the job - we need around another $60,000.

For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what he does not have.

2Cor 8:12 NIV

Due to the limited equipment we cannot schedule local programs yet nor can we increase our current workload. We have also not been in a position to pay our fulltime staff - Deb and Allen.

We have seen a few come and go in the last 12 months as they have sought paid employment - we thank Danni, Sean, David, Yvonne and Kristie. We thank those who continue to

pop in

just when we need them, Ros, Beryl, Alison, Tony and we thank our current volunteers Beth and Yvonne and Laurence who has just taken on a paid Sales position.

Please continue to pray for us as we work towards keeping LIFE FM a permanent part of our community. For more information on helping us reach the target - call the office during business hours 03 5143 0355 or email or go to the Support section on the web site

The Great Sausage Sizzle Challenge Winner

Congratulations to Morwell CRC who took up the challenge and won a GOLD ONE MONTH SPONSORSHIP PACKAGE.

We're making the Great Sausage Sizzle Challenge and annual event to celebrate October - our anniversary month - so mark your diaries now. We're putting out the challenge to groups and businesses to raise funds for Life FM.

The group or business that raises the most money through sausage sizzles in October will win a sponsorship package worth over $1000 that will help promote your organisation or business throughout Gippsland.

Bishop's Family Foundation supports Life FM

THE Bishop's Family Foundation recently allocated almost $55,000 towards projects supporting Gippsland families. Life FM received $5000 towards providing family based programs on effective parenting, youth issues, suicide prevention, marriage enrichment and faith development. One Solitary Life

Here is a young man who was born in an obscure village, the child of a peasant woman. He was raised in another village, working as a carpenter until the age of thirty, when He became an itinerant preacher.

In all His life, He never wrote a book, held a public office, or attended a college. He had no home or family of His own. Large cities were unknown to Him and He was never more than 200 miles from the place of His birth.

He did none of the things that usually accompany greatness. He had no credentials, but Himself. After three years as a preacher, public opinion turned against Him. His friends deserted Him, leaving Him to suffer the mockery of a trial at the hands of His enemies. He was sentenced to death and was nailed to a cross between two thieves. As He was dying, His executioners gambled for His robe -His only possession on earth.

Twenty centuries have passed since His death, and today He is the central figure of the human race and the leader of the column of progress.

All the armies that ever marched, all the navies that ever sailed, all the kings that ever reigned, and all the governments that ever ruled, combined, have not influenced the life of man upon this earth nearly as much as that ONE SOLITARY LIFE.
