Prayer & PraisePraise God for His continued blessings
New Members 13 new members since last newsletter. Thank you and PRAISE GOD - please pray for more sponsors. Technical Issues Pray for those who maintain our equipment and for those working on our studio installation - for those “extra” hours needed. Volunteers for the Station and the Bookshop Please pray for God to send those with servant hearts that He would have in these positions. We need to help keep Christian Bookworld running to maintain our presence in the Valley - particularly people who are available to close the shop at 5:30pm. Our studio in the shop is vital to the next step in our growth.

He and Deb will be having some fun Christmas Day from 11am to 1pm with great music and Christmas goodies...So if you’re not allergic to nuts - tune in!! Randell will also join you Boxing Day - at MIDDAY (without a clipboard!) for something a bit different.
Broadcaster Training DayThe Southern Community Media Association conducted accredited Certificate III training in Sale at the Anglican Diocese Office with attendance of 21 students - 10 from Life FM and the rest from 3BBR in Drouin and one from Vision Radio (formerly Radio Print Handicapped). Graeme Macartney from Shepparton and Rod Boyd from Melbourne conducted training sessions on “Present On Air” and “Conduct an Interview”. There has already been substantial positive feedback from the training event, which, combined with the almost overwhelming expressions of interest from through out the SCMA membership, means that the association is keen to conduct similar training sessions as soon as possible at different locations within the membership area of the SCMA. The SCMA currently has submissions before the CBF for more funding to run more of these accredited training sessions so these participants will hopefully be able to complete Cert II Broadcasting. Tall Poppy Café provided morning and afternoon tea and lunch on a contra sponsorship basis. Participants now have to submit four interviews and one air check by Feb09. We are working together to make sure everyone has access to recorders and the studio and interviews will hopefully be able to be used on air. Already 3 participants are gearing up for their own programs, Randell to present TRAA, Sarah will do a Veggie Tales / kids program and Liam Craig will be presenting “Get Out Of Jail Free” in the New Year. Win Prizes!!!Sarah's Mixed Veggies
We all know that veggies are good for you but you won’t find any B1 or B2 in this lot!! This Christmas Day at 7am and 4pm, join Sarah for a Very Veggie Christmas. Then in January during the holidays each Saturday, Sarah will be giving away a Veggie Tales DVD to the winner of the DRAW YOUR FAVOUITE VEGGIE competition! Just send in your drawing with your name, age, address and phone number on the back and each week in January you have the opportunity to win a prize! Post to PO Box 1378, Sale 3853 and listen on Saturdays at 8am or 5:30pm for Sarah’s Mixed Veggie Show!
Win a Christian Bookworld Voucher Shop at Christian Bookworld in Traralgon between now and 4pm Christmas Eve and you will go into the draw to win one of three gift vouchers, worth $100, $50 and $20!

In Sale the girls are busy. Sarah works on getting our regular programs ready for air and updates the website. You heard her in September reading the community notices. In the office Robyn continues to faithfully provide us with the scripts for the community notices - preparing those that are sent in to us (for which we are most grateful and wanting lots more!) and going through all the local Gippsland newspapers and church newsletters.
| Sarah Possart |

Yvonne assists me in the day-to-day activities that keep us running. There's always heaps of filing and banking to do, letters to write. and phone calls to answer. There's a huge amount of administration and Yvonne keeps things humming. Yvonne also works with Verena and sometimes Christine in adding all new (and the many existing) CDs to our station database. This is in preparation for future programs and also helps us to know what we've got on our shelves.
| Yvonne, right, supervising the newsletter mailout with Robyn, Christine and Linda |

Meanwhile apart from preparing Gippsland Extra each week...I've been preparing applications for some grants to update the Sale studio and get the Traralgon studio to broadcast stage. We now have our "live" switching in place - and we broadcast “live” briefly on 7th August. There is still a bit to do to make the switching more user friendly - but at least we have the option now thanks to Ralph!
The next step is to upgrade the studio mixer. The one we purchased a few years ago doesn't have the right buttons. That's the non-technical version. At the time we couldn't afford the more expensive desk so we made do with the one we have now - which has been fantastic. Getting the Traralgon studio set up will mean more people can be involved for a broader area. Baby steps.....
Ralph installing our new on-air PC |
For several months now we have been working on our licence renewal. It's a huge job as we basically write up an accountability check to the Australian Broadcasting and Media Authority to give them reason to extend our licence another 5 years. This document was completed and posted on Friday 26th September - so your prayers that all this work will be rewarded with another five year licence are most valued.
Till next time....
Blessings,
Deb Bye

It’s our birthday and it’s also the time when donations and memberships really drop off - from November to around March is the “dry” time for many ministries. Everyone is thinking about Christmas and holidays and then before you know it - it’s Easter!
Many visitors come to Gippsland over summer so it’s a great time for Life FM to spread the good news about
Jesus!
This year we thought we’d try and plan ahead for the dry time and ask you to send Life FM a birthday gift
Our catch phrase is “a better Life for Gippsland” - it is the focus of all that we do to bring the message of the hope of Jesus into the hearts of those who listen to Life FM -
YOU are an integral part in this listener supported ministry!
We are aiming for $25,000 by 29th October. The final tally will be announced at the Birthday Party / AGM (see top of page for details).
You can make a donation ANYTIME to help keep Life FM running. CLICK HERE NOW
Or, arrange a direct debit at your bank. Please make sure you put your name as the reference so we can send you a receipt.
Bendigo Bank, Branch : 633-000 Acct : 116708298
FINAL TOTAL $63,187.00!!

At the beginning of June we asked God for $60,000 to help us keep the station running. With costs rising everywhere we realise the great sacrifice people make to donate money (even if it is tax deductible!) We had 102 people from 40 towns across Gippsland collectively donate our final tally - and we know that those people were moved by God to donate - all praise to Jesus!
We have seen God move mightily through His people - thank you Gippsland and beyond!! There have been many wonderful stories of God's provision and we are so grateful and humbled to be part of those stories.
Like everything in our lives our costs keep rising too and although we were also recently blessed w
ith a grant from the Community Broadcast Foundation of $26,830.10 to assist in paying our transmission costs - these prices have also risen….so we seem to be always a little behind.
HOWEVER! This does keep us dependant on God for our provision and we see time and again how He looks after us.
We keep our running costs as trim as we can but it still ends up around $640 per day/ If you want to know more about all this please come to our Annual Meeting in October.
Come and help us celebrate our 5th Birthday this year on Wednesday 29th October.

The venue will be announced in the next newsletter. If you are interested in serving a term on the Board we’d love to hear from you. There are currently three vacancies and 2 more Board members will stand down in October.
If you are interested call the office (5143 0355) and the Board secretary will send you the Board info kit so there are no surprises!
Good governance and accountability will help to keep Life FM on air in Gippsland.
If your church or not-for-profit group is having an activity please let us know. We’d love to tell others and our community notices are heard on the hour every hour - what better publicity can you get FREE!
Just send us the details of your event by:
Mail PO Box 1378, Sale 3850
Email gippsland@lifefm.com.au

Part of what I’ve been doing at Life FM recently has been to upload new music into the station library and help keep a fresh rotation of new music coming to you.
We truly are blessed to have access to such great talent across many genres of music. There is so much new music coming out - I get excited when I find out that one of my favourite artists or groups has a new album about to hit the store shelves, or a new single from their album about to hit the airwaves across Christian radio.
So what is new? Tonnes of stuff. New Reliant K, Delirious, Hillsong, Kutless, Christian City Church, Paradise Worship, Leeland and Britt Nicole to name but a few.
Two stand out albums at present are Mick Sykes' "Forgiven" and Third Day’s "Revelation".
Third Day are a well known US band who have been putting out albums since the mid 1990’s, with 24 number one radio singles and over six million albums sold.
With songs dealing with the complexities of the Christian walk, their new album "Revelation" is a must for any Third Day fan. Keep an ear out for the band’s first single "Call My Name", already a Top Five hit on The Rock Across Australia charts.
And finally, do yourself a favour and check out Mick Sykes' debut album "Forgiven". Mick grew up in the Latrobe Valley and now resides in Sydney. With production on the album by experienced Aussie Christian music producers and recording artists, David Holmes and Andy Sorenson, "Forgiven" is one album we put into Life FM’s playlist as soon as we could. Stand out tracks include "Stay", "Jehovah" and the title track "Forgiven".
Both these albums are available from station sponsor Christian Bookworld, Shop 3, 27 Princes Street Traralgon.
Hope to see you at our fund raiser concert with Steve Messer and crew at Sale Baptist church on Saturday 9th August.
Until next time, keep that radio locked on 103.9 Life FM.
Randell Green.

Do your kids struggle to get out of bed - especially on the weekends?
One Gippsland family has solved the problem! They encourage their kids to listen to Veggie Tales Radio in the family lounge room and it works!!
Listen to Life FM!

Deb celebrated 5 years at Life FM on the 23rd of June. The crew shared cream sponge and mused over how quickly time flies when you're having FUN!
We love to hear from you - it’s YOUR radio station! Your letters will help us with our licence renewal. Here’s just a few of the messages we’ve received...
Lakes Entrance - I must congratulate you on the extremely professional standard or your broadcasts. This is such a relief from the bumbling inept efforts of the local commercial stations. The content of your programs is also a refreshing change and you do present a well balanced mix of material. Keep up the great work and I certainly support your seeking a continuance for your Broadcasting Licence. The loss of Life FM would be a tragedy for the whole of Gippsland. It is my considered opinion that you have proved continuously, to be worthy holders of a Broadcast Licence and extremely good stewards of the trust placed in you by the Australian Communication and Media Authority. May you long continue to grace the airwaves of Gippsland.
Churchill - Just wanted to say a huge thanks to all the crew at Life Fm. I tune in nearly everyday to listen to all your fantastic programs and music. I especially like veggie tales radio, TRAA, the Reality Zone and Chuck Swindoll. My whole life basically revolves around your station, well not quite, but I definitely love Life FM. Keep up the great work.
Yallourn Nth - I enjoy listening to LifeFM in the car in this time of life where I am a taxi for my children. I especially like the Focus on the Family program and try to apply many of the principals to my life.
Moe - We find the music very soothing to listen to in the car. The kids listen and makes it easier to drive without distractions. We appreciated the fact there is no swearing. Keep up the good work.
Sale - As a new mum I have found the early morning programs great to listen to while feeding my baby. I'm glad to have the opportunity to listen to them and value the teaching and other programs. Thanks for adding more enjoyment to those special morning times with my baby!
Praise God for His continued blessings
Everyday we see God’s hand in the work that we do - it is such a blessing to be part of this ministry!
Thanks for the wonderful letters of encouragement we have received.

Our catch phrase is “a better Life for Gippsland” - it is the focus of all that we do to bring the message of the hope of Jesus into the hearts of those who listen to Life FM - YOU are an integral part in this listener supported ministry!
It’s time to get our licence renewal application ready.
In August 2004 we were issued a 5 year licence - now we have to show the Australian Communication and Media Authority that we have been good stewards of the frequency (103.9FM) and that we are capable of continuing for another 5 years.
This means we need YOU!
We need letters of support, memberships and donations - all sorts of statistics to show ACMA that the Christian Community of Gippsland wants to have a local Christian radio station.
Please consider how you can help keep Life FM on air -
We can fill in the forms - but ultimately—it’s up to YOU!

Randell (Production - Traralgon) and Deb (Sale) co-MC’d the inaugural Easter celebration at Victory Park in Traralgon on Easter Sunday.
The organizers are hoping this will become a high profile annual event and Life FM was excited to be involved.
Yvonne (Admin - Sale) was very excited to be able to participate in the Journey of the Cross and Icon as it passed through Gippsland.
On Friday April 18th the Committee of Management of Gippsland Christian Broadcasters Inc and senior staff met for a Strategic Planning Day in Morwell. During the 7 hour meeting we discussed many issues, ranging from looking at where we are today through to where we would like to be in five years’ time.
The day was facilitated by an external consultant, who assisted us to focus our thinking on the activities we need to be doing now to hopefully ensure the mission of Life FM is achieved - that being to equip, empower and encourage the people of Gippsland with the message of Jesus through quality broadcasting services.
It was a very productive day, and highlighted the exciting phase we are currently in at Life FM. With our licence renewal application due to be submitted later this year, the next few months are going to be very busy for the CoM.
If you have skills in governance, or an interest in learning more about what it involves, we would love to hear from you.

A love of books as a young boy and an enthusiasm to share those experiences was all God needed to lead Robin Harrison into a career in Christian Bookshops that would last over a decade.

After having some experience in a bookshop in Swan Hill back in the 1970's, Robin got the "bookshop bug" and so in 1997 it wasn't a big leap to move into the Christian Bookshop in Traralgon. Back then the shop was owned by the Bible Society. In 2001 Robin bought the shop and at one stage there were 25 volunteers!
Robin approached CLC International around 2 years ago as he pondered the future of the shop as he approached his retirement. CLC purchased the shop and it officially opened as Christian Bookworld in November 2007.
Robin is looking forward to a well deserved rest - but he says he's also looking forward to helping out at other Christian Bookworld stores around Australia. We wish him well and all God's blessings for his future.
After operating for six years as Traralgon Inspirational Books and Gifts, in November last year mission organisation CLC International purchased the store and officially launched as Christian Bookworld Traralgon.
CLC manages a chain of Christian Bookworld stores throughout Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia and now in Victoria.
Life FM is very excited about this development as it will maintain a Christian bookshop presence in the Latrobe Valley. The store will continue to be run by volunteers and we look forward to more people joining the team.
Life FM has partnered with Christian Bookworld in Traralgon and we have been able to set up an office and small studio to encourage access and training to our Latrobe Valley supporters.
The Life FM office/studio is open on Tuesdays from 9 till 3pm and you’ll find newly appointed Production Assistant / Music Director Randell Green there if you pop in.
Randell has experience with community radio through a program he presented for many years on Gippsland FM called - The Servant’s Rock Show. He has been updating our music and recently added 113 tracks to the mix!

Current Bookshop Team (L-R):
Back: Jennifer McMahon, Denise Edgar, Trevor Paine, Val Morris
Front: Robin Harrison, Stella Morris, Sue Little
A new era is beginning in Christian Bookworld and we are assisting in the search for volunteers.
If you love chatting to people - especially about God and have a love of books, music and movies - what a great way to volunteer your time to serve God.
Ideally we would like to get people to volunteer for a day a week - but we will be flexible - what about a day a fortnight?
We need people who are willing to open the shop at 9am and close at 5:30pm Monday to Friday and also Saturday from 9am till 1pm.
If you can’t manage the time - maybe someone in your church would be interested in this ministry?
You’ll also need to be able to answer the phone, be accountable for money taken and be enthusiastic!
Call 5174 0147 for a Volunteer Application - or pick one up from the bookshop or Life FM’s main office in Sale.
Maybe you’d prefer to volunteer for Life FM ….you can use the same form. Get involved - let’s touch a heart today for Jesus!

CLC stands for CHRISTIAN LITERATURE CRUSADE, more commonly known today as CLC International.
CLC is an International Christian Literature mission comprised of people drawn from many nationalities, denominations and backgrounds. All are dedicated to serving the Lord Jesus Christ and to the task of helping others to know Him better, primarily through the tool of the printed page.
CLC is not just a chain of bookshops, but a ministry which desires to see people's lives changed though making evangelical literature available to all nations so that people may come to faith and maturity in Christ.
CLC Australian Director David Scouler
with Robin at his farewell dinner
CLC strives to impact individuals, families, communities and entire nations through their various ministries. Each book centre becomes a place where people can browse, buy and benefit as they discuss spiritual matters.
Local ministries may include:
Reading and lending libraries, mail order programs, wholesaling to other book outlets, special counseling facilities or a place to drink coffee with friends, bookmobiles go where people have little or no access to Gospel Literature to market places, fairs, shows and isolated towns. Book tables are frequently set up in conjunction with local churches.
Publishing and printing is undertaken in areas where there is a shortage of suitable literature. Each country, through its excess finance, invests in the furthering of the work in the local community, nationally or internationally.

Johanna Haasjes and her faithful team regularly hold sausage sizzles outside the Leongataha IGA for Life FM. They also support TEAR Australia and that’s why Johanna has her mobile toilet!
The note in the loo says -
When in the comfort of your home
You sit upon a ceramic throne.
Let your thoughts roam far and wide
For those who have no place to hide
Except behind a bush or tree
Those not as fortunate as we.
Your gift will save them from such strife
And give a better way of life!
So if you see Johanna and her loo don’t miss the opportunity to help out!

I can remember when 2008 was “the future” - “the space age” - a long way off! How quickly it has come around.
Now that Christmas is well and truly over I think it’s really sad to see the shops trying ever so hard to market the next “special” holiday. So far I’ve seen Easter eggs (on Boxing Day!), Valentines and St Patrick’s Day.
Remember when “special” WAS special. Looking forward to something that wasn’t taken for granted and not appreciated.
We were talking about this over Christmas - how special ham and chicken used to be - now it’s available for daily take-away. Even hot cross buns - bought especially for Easter and how we looked forward to them. I reckon it’s sad for us - but especially sad for the children who don’t have that sense of expectation of things to come. The anticipation of something wonderful - even if it is just a hot cross bun!
How complacent are we then as the return of Jesus approaches?
Is it something you’re looking forward to with expectation of the fulfillment of all those wonderful promises?
Are you ready?
Don’t get left behind…………..
