Have you noticed our pips?? With the absence of news
on the hour we thought you might like to know when the
hour starts, this seemed the most effective way of doing
so with our limited equipment.
If you'd like to help us add to our equipment so we
can bring you programs like the news - we have an equipment
wish list on our web site if you want to check
it out
We now have our Christmas
program guide online as well and we're hoping to
have a newsletter out next week.
This Sunday I'll be visiting the Christian Outreach

to come along and hear about Life FM first hand.

Bairnsdale Regional Health Service History Tapestry

The history of the Bairnsdale Regional Health Service
is a colourful one - and a story that exudes the texture
of a very supportive, progressive and generous community.
We've put together just a sample of the many hundreds
of people who have in some way contributed to the fabric
of this professional medical service and the community
it serves.
PELICANS - Marco Gionfriddo is one of the current generations
to support the hospital through the Pelicans
ANESTHETIC - The hospital moved to its current site
in 1939 after 50 years in McKean St. There have been
many changes over the years and lots of pioneering at
the Bairnsdale Regional Hospital.
Joan Graves was married to anesthetist Dr Alec Graves
who started at the hospital in 1955 and was instrumental
in progressing that department.
BLOOD BANK - In 1962 the hospital was looking for a
pathology technician with experience in blood banks
- Dr Nick Gottschalk was their choice so he and his
wife Helen moved to Bairnsdale. Deb asked Dr Gottschalk
what happened before blood banks.
MEALS ON WHEELS - In 1967 the local red Cross was instrumental
in setting up a Meals on Wheels service. Joan Graves
and Betty Murray have been involved with meals on wheels
in Bairnsdale pretty much since day one.
ORDERLIES - Jim East came to the Bairnsdale Hospital
in 1973 as Domestic Services Manager. This was a new
position and was constantly changing and adapting to
the needs of the hospital. Jim was involved in setting
up many of the domestic management systems and was also
in charge of the wardsmen.
RADIOLOGY - Dr Geoffrey Brown came to the Bairnsdale
hospital in 1974 and was appointed radiologist in 1975.
He was also appointed Medical Superintendent - now known
as Director of Medical services. He too has seen many
changes in radiology
NURSES - Someone else who's passionate about the role
the hospital played in training its nurses is Maureen
Newcomen, who came to the hospital in 1976 and became
matron.
NURSES - Current Director of Nursing Lorraine Broad
came to the hospital in 1998. She's seen many changes
in her forty years of nursing.
CEO - These days hospitals have CEO's and in 2003 Garry
Grey took up that position at the Bairnsdale Regional
Hospital and is clearly proud of its achievements.
TAPESTRY - Fundraising and Promotions Manager of BRHS,
Jo Moulton, was instrumental in initiating a partnership
between BRHS and the Victorian Tapestry Foundation to
create a commemorative tapestry.
TAPESTRY - Tapestry artist Geoffrey Ricardo created
the original artwork for the tapestry during his 6 month
artist-in-residency program at Bairnsdale regional health
service. I asked Geoffrey how he went about representing
a hospital in a tapestry.
This Audio Special was produced in the studios of Life
FM Gippsland by Manna
Media.
Nutritionist Cyndi O'Meara
Food - one of my favourite things - but which ones
should we be eating to keep us healthy? The age old
question and a walk through any bookshop or supermarket
will confuse you even more with all the diet books and
healthy eating guides.
Every now and then there's someone who catches my attention
for one reason or another - this time it's controversy..
Cyndi O'Meara is a university trained nutritionist
with a science degree and an enthusiastic approach to
healthy eating that's quite infectious.Cyndi is coming
to Gippsland next week and will be speaking in Bairnsdale,
Sale, Yarram, Leongatha and Traralgon.
With so many different options around Deb asks Cyndi
her opinion on what we should be looking for.
Full details of Cyndi's visit to Gippsland can be
found on her website or you can call (03) 5144 5588

LIFE FM NEWS
Hot off the press - we've just been told that Life
FM has received $3000 from the Bishop's Family Foundation
- this will be added to our microwave and studio equipment
fund.
Our 2nd Birthday on air has come and gone - the 2nd
annual Life FM Sausage Sizzle Challenge is now officially
over and it's been great to have groups from all over
Gippsland involved this year.
The annual challenge is open to any club, church, group
or business and all you have to do is raise funds for
Life FM during the month of October by having sausage
sizzles and your group or business could win a great
prize.
This year the prize is a one month Gold sponsorship
on Life FM valued at over $1000 - a professional web
site from sponsor Anchor Web design valued at over $600
and a selection of office goods from sponsor Officeworks
Traralgon.
Our entrants this year were The Traralgon Anglican
Church, Bairnsdale Baptists, South Coast Christian College
in Leongatha and Stratford Uniting Church.
Some of the entrants also ran other activities like
trading tables and garage sales but this year we have
only counted the totals from the sausage sizzles.
Next year we thought we'd modify the rules to allow
for other fundraising events - but there still has to
be a sausage sizzle at the event to qualify for the
great October Sausage Sizzle Challenge.
There's been an amazing amount of work done by al the
groups and we are very grateful for the support - so
if you missed the announcement on Saturday - the winner
of the 2005 Great October Sausage Sizzle Challenge is
the South Coast Christian College. Congratulations to
the team in South Gippsland with a tremendous coordinating
effort by Johanna Haajes and Doreen Western.
Let's hope next year we have even more entrants and
lots of activities to raise the profile of Life FM in
Gippsland community.
As I said earlier we made a couple of announcements
on Saturday -
If you're a regular listener, you will know that for
most of the time since we started broadcasting we've
been looping our music. Every 6 weeks or so we recorded
24 hours of music and drove up to the transmitter site
at Mt Tassie to load the music and some programs onto
a computer - that's what you've been listening to all
this time. Now we have been fundraising to buy a microwave
link and some more studio equipment and things are moving
ahead slowly. We don't have the money we need to buy
the link and remaining equipment yet, but God has been
very faithful to us and taken us through many ups and
downs - it's a long road, both physically and spiritually.
So it was fitting on our second birthday to announce
that we are now out of the loop and everyday you'll
be hearing a new mix of music.
With this new system in place we've also been able
to introduce 2 new programs - the Top 30 Christian Music
Countdown THE ROCK ACROSS AUSTRALIA - which will be
on at 10am and 8pm every Saturday and now you can hear
Focus on the Family on Saturday as well as Sunday both
days at 5pm and also at 5am.

The latest information with the Gift of Joy ministry:
Unknown to JR and Anieta, the owner of the building they use for the Gift of Joy centre lost the building due to gambling. This left them with just two months to find somewhere else to go and move out - there's only a few weeks left. The are are looking at a building that needs a lot of work but "should be perfect". Please pray for them as they make a decision on this new building and all the issues involved with moving their ministry. If you would like to help, please visit their website: Gift of Joy
