Crossing the Gap - New Year's Eve
The Crossing the Gap team has organised a huge FREE event to see in the new year and everyone is invited - Ben Bowen has the details…..
Gippsland - Open for Business
There’s been a lot of concern from folk about where they can travel in Gippsland - The DSE, CFA and Parks Victoria advise that all forest and park roads and tracks north of Bairnsdale and west of the Great Alpine Road remain closed to the public due to the fires.
The Dargo township is open and safe to the general public and the bitumen road into Walhalla township is open. For road closure information go to the Vic Roads link on our website lifefm.com.au
There are plenty of places to visit in Regional Victoria for a holiday over the summer period, including numerous parks and forests in the North East, South Gippsland and East Gippsland that are open to visitors.
Gippsland Tourism General Manager Chris Buckingham says operators promise a warm welcome!

ANNA LARKIN - CFA
This last week has been a very stressful one for many people as they watch and wait to see where the fires that have been devastating thousands of hectares of bush head closer to populated areas.
As many pray for the relief of rain, there are also many at the front line volunteering and giving of themselves as people seem to do in times of hardship and distress.
Nerves are frayed and the news seems to be always different as we try to plan ahead where the winds of change will lead this monster.
There's no need to tell you that hundreds of hours of preparation go into training and preparing mechanisms to effectively fight a fire such as we are experiencing - but that doesn't make it any easier when you have not had the benefit of that training.
That's why the CFA and DSE work closely together to talk about having fire plans and things in place to take the pressure off when a fire threatens.
Anna Larkin is the Community Education Coordinator for the CFA in Gippsland and she and her family are also on watch on their property near Briagolong. Deb spoke to her on Tuesday about the situation and what plans they have in place
It's very frustrating for us at the moment not being able to bring you up to date information on the fire situation. We are currently in the process of installing our microwave link equipment and things aren't quite in place yet.
We have all the meeting information on our website - lifefm.com.au plus links to the relvant pages on the DSE, CFA and road closure information. The Victorian Bushfire information line is free call 1800 240 667.

The issue of sexual abuse seems to be in the news constantly
someone being accused or arrested - but what about the
victim/survivors? Earlier this month the Victorian Ombudsman
tabled a report in the parliament with 35 recommendations
on how government agencies including Victoria Police,
the Dept of Human Services, Dept of Justice and Dept
of Education & Training could improve their responses
to allegations involving sexual assault. The Gippsland

published an article in local newspapers about the long

mental health problems faced by victims of sexual assault
and they have received a strong response as GCASA Manager
Dr Margaret Ubergang explains..
